Lamok Attack

The DOH declared and outbreak of dengue fever in Barangay Buhangin in Baler, Aurora in May following the hospitalization of 34 children at the San Lazaro Hospital (SLH) for two weeks. There was one death.

The said patients reportedly travelled for seven hours by land to seek medical help at the said hospital.

SLH authorities noted that most of the patients were admitted from 9 – 22 May. The DOH dispatched two medical and epidemiological teams to Baler, Aurora to investigate the outbreak.

The outbreak occurred just as the DOH started a nationwide campaign for dengue prevention and control. The campaign dubbed as “Tepok Lamok, Dengue Sapok” promoted the “4 O’clock habit” of ridding places where the aedes aegypti mosquitoes (the virus carriers) thrives.
