Raising Awareness of Breast Cancer

The fight against breast cancer this year, like that in the HIV/AIDS campaign, was given a human face by Rosa Meneses, a breast cancer survivor who tried and succeeded in raising awareness of the disease. She was the spokesperson of the campaign of the ABS-CBN produced public service announcement. Ironically, she died early in October, at the height of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.

“Working together to Save a Life” is this year’s battle cry to raise awareness on breast cancer. One of the major activities for the month was concert for a cause, involving some of the country’s famous female singers and comediennes, which was held at the Quirino grandstand.

A launching of the book entitled “I Can Serve” was also held. The book is a compilation of network of people, places and services for the Philippine Breast Cancer community. It was written by breast cancer survivor Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala and co-authored by Cathy Babao Guballa.
